Kupang — Telkomsel is offering a special Rp1 emergency communications package for mobile customers in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, following the mid-August earthquake that struck the region. According to Telkomsel’s official announcement and multiple Indonesian media reports, the package is designed to help residents in affected areas stay connected during the emergency response period.
Telkomsel promoted the initiative as part of its disaster response for communities needing to contact relatives, access information and support coordination efforts after the quake. The company has presented the offer alongside other measures such as humanitarian assistance, temporary connectivity support and disaster hotlines.
What the Rp1 emergency package provides
Telkomsel describes the product as a Paket Darurat available to customers in areas affected by the Flores earthquake. According to Telkomsel’s official communications and regional broadcasters, the package includes three types of service:
- Internet data: 1 GB
- SMS: 1,000 messages
- Voice calls: 300 minutes
- Price: Rp1
- Validity: Seven days from activation
- Activation: USSD code *888*20#
The data, SMS and voice allowances are bundled for a single seven-day validity period. Telkomsel’s materials and news reports do not specify whether different usage components have separate expiry rules or whether unused allowances can be carried over after the seven-day period.
Regional reports on the programme cite Telkomsel’s corporate communications, describing the offer as part of the company’s commitment to support disaster-hit communities and maintain connectivity while infrastructure is being repaired. Telkomsel has also highlighted that the package is intended to ease communication between residents, emergency responders and local authorities.
Neither Telkomsel’s announcement nor independent coverage provide a detailed monetary breakdown of the Rp1 charge, such as information on applicable taxes or other fees. Customers are advised to rely on the price and conditions shown in Telkomsel’s own confirmation messages or self-care channels at the time of activation.
Who can use it and how to check
Telkomsel states that the emergency package is available to its customers in areas officially classified as affected by the Flores earthquake. Public reports describe eligibility in general terms as “customers in affected areas” without distinguishing between prepaid and postpaid accounts or specifying particular customer categories.
The company has not publicly detailed the precise geographic boundaries of the programme in the sources reviewed, beyond referring to Flores and parts of Nusa Tenggara Timur impacted by the quake. As a result, the phrase “affected areas” should not be assumed to cover every Telkomsel customer across the entire island.
Customers can check their eligibility by dialling the activation code *888*20# on their mobile phones. Telkomsel’s disaster-support communications indicate that the resulting menu or confirmation message will show whether the number qualifies for the Rp1 emergency package and the exact benefits available under current terms.
The company has directed the public to its official information channels for updates on services during the response and recovery period. It has also promoted the Telkom Group disaster-response hotline, 0800-111-9000, as a free point of contact for information about network status and support measures related to the Flores earthquake.
Context and timeline
Indonesia’s meteorological and geophysics agency and local media reported a magnitude 7.7 earthquake affecting Flores and surrounding areas in Nusa Tenggara Timur in mid-August 2026. In the days immediately after the quake, Telkomsel said that a portion of its sites in Flores had been disrupted but that most services remained operational and were being restored.
On 16 August 2026, Telkomsel announced that a dedicated Rp1 emergency package would be made available to customers in affected parts of Flores for seven days after activation. Subsequent coverage by national and regional outlets reiterated the package contents and activation method, and reported that the offer formed part of a broader set of connectivity and humanitarian support measures.
By 18 August 2026, Telkomsel stated that mobile network operations in affected areas had largely recovered, with all sites back in service. Later reports on the company’s disaster response emphasised network restoration and continuing support but did not clearly state an end date for the Rp1 package or confirm whether it would remain available as a standing tariff beyond the emergency period.
Based on currently available information, the Rp1 emergency offer is best understood as a time-limited disaster-response measure with a seven-day validity after activation for eligible customers in designated affected areas. Travellers and residents in Flores who wish to rely on the package for emergency communications should first confirm current availability, eligibility and detailed terms directly through Telkomsel’s official channels or by using the activation code.
