Labuan Bajo — West Manggarai officials are promoting Wae Lolos as a village-tourism destination beyond Komodo National Park, according to a report published on 3 October 2026.

The report says Labuan Bajo and West Manggarai have village attractions that complement visits to Komodo National Park. It identifies local culture, nature and religious tourism as additional areas with development potential.

Stefan Jemsifori, head of the West Manggarai Tourism, Creative Economy and Culture Office, said the local government was promoting attractions beyond Komodo dragons and the park’s natural attractions. He made the statement in Wae Lolos.

The report says the local government held Fasmadewi, or the Facilitation of Tourism Village Communities programme, in two villages. Wae Lolos was one of the villages included in the programme.

Why it matters to Labuan Bajo visitors

The development of village tourism broadens the range of experiences connected with a Labuan Bajo trip. Visitors who include Wae Lolos can encounter attractions linked to nature, community life and local religious and cultural traditions, rather than relying only on the national park’s wildlife and marine activities.

The report also credits the Wae Lolos village government and other participants with helping develop the village as a tourism destination. The local tourism office said it would continue support through work programmes and collaboration with stakeholders, with the stated aim of sustaining development and increasing local benefits.

Wae Lolos is therefore presented as part of the area’s wider tourism offer and as a destination that can help distribute visitor interest beyond Komodo National Park. The report does not state a new access rule, fee or closure.
