Labuan Bajo — BMKG warned of waves measuring 1,25 to 2,5 metres in Komodo National Park waters from Wednesday, 21 October 2026, until Thursday morning, 22 October 2026 WITA (UTC+8). The warning covered several waters in East Nusa Tenggara and highlighted risks to maritime safety, especially for fishing boats and barges, according to RRI.
The forecast was delivered by Caesar Agni Pratama, a forecaster at BMKG Tenau Kupang Maritime Meteorological Station. BMKG is Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency.
The areas listed included the southern Sape Strait, Flores waters, waters south of Flores and the waters of Komodo National Park. The report said the forecast applied through Thursday morning, 22 October 2026 WITA (UTC+8).
Why it matters to Komodo readers
The warning directly concerns boats operating around Komodo National Park and nearby routes. Waves at 1,25 to 2,5 metres can affect smaller vessels and other marine transport, while the report specifically identified fishing boats and barges as facing safety risks.
BMKG also forecast generally clear to partly cloudy conditions across East Nusa Tenggara. Winds were expected to come from the southeast to southwest at 6–30 kilometres per hour, according to the report.
The advisory was issued for a defined period rather than as a permanent restriction. The report did not state that Komodo National Park was closed or that sailings were suspended. It also did not provide a separate instruction from the Komodo National Park Authority, known as BTNK.
