Flores — BMKG recorded 1,976 earthquakes across East Nusa Tenggara during 2–8 October 2026, including 22 that were felt by residents, according to a report published on 10 October.
The report attributed the figures to the Kupang Geophysics Station of Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency. It said Flores recorded the highest number of earthquakes in the province during the period.
Most of the earthquakes were below magnitude 4.0, with 1,947 events in that category. The report also said 1,939 earthquakes occurred at depths of less than 60 kilometres.
Of the total, 1,665 earthquakes occurred at sea and 311 on land. The highest daily frequency was recorded on 4 October 2026, when 511 earthquakes were registered.
Why it matters to Flores readers
The concentration of recorded activity in Flores gives residents a clear reason to follow official earthquake information, particularly because the reporting period included 22 felt events. The report said residents were urged to remain calm and follow official updates.
The figures are presented as a weekly account of seismic activity across NTT, rather than as a report of a single earthquake. Earlier seismic activity in Flores forms the background to the latest BMKG statement, but the new count covers 2–8 October 2026.
No further action or timetable was stated in the report beyond the advice to remain calm and monitor official information.
