Mataram — A 261-member humanitarian team from West Nusa Tenggara received recognition on 10 October 2026 for its relief mission in earthquake-hit Flores, where it worked in Manggarai and East Manggarai regencies from 16 to 31 August.
Why it matters: The mission delivered about 3,000 food portions daily and medical examinations or treatment to more than 4,000 earthquake-affected residents in Manggarai and East Manggarai.
East Nusa Tenggara Governor Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena presented certificates to the team at the West Nusa Tenggara governor’s office in Mataram, according to the East Nusa Tenggara administration and local news reports. West Nusa Tenggara Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal led the team during its deployment.
The mission followed a magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck Flores on 15 August. The team operated an integrated kitchen that prepared about 3,000 food portions a day and provided medical examinations or treatment to more than 4,000 residents, according to reports citing the provincial administration.
The team began its response less than 24 hours after the earthquake, officials said. Relatives and residents in Flores welcomed the volunteers warmly, Iqbal said at the recognition ceremony.
The mission covered more than two weeks of emergency assistance, including food distribution, health services and support for affected communities in Manggarai and East Manggarai.
