Labuan Bajo — Manggarai Barat recorded 105 hotels with a combined 2,299 rooms and 4,582 beds in 2023, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Manggarai Barat.
The figures, published in the 2024 regional statistics volume for Manggarai Barat, outline the scale of hotel accommodation supporting tourism in Labuan Bajo and the wider regency.
Based on the reported totals, each hotel had an average of around 22 rooms, with roughly two beds per room.
Hotel capacity in Manggarai Barat
The BPS publication Statistik Daerah Kabupaten Manggarai Barat 2024 states that in 2023 the regency had 105 hotels, comprising 16 star-rated hotels and 89 non-star hotels.
From those 105 properties, BPS reports a total of 2,299 rooms and 4,582 beds.
The capacity figures indicate that Manggarai Barat’s hotel market is spread across many small and medium-sized properties rather than dominated by a few large establishments.
A separate planning document from the Manggarai Barat regional development agency, citing BPS Manggarai Barat data, shows that hotel and room numbers have risen steadily from 2017 to 2021, reinforcing the picture of expanding accommodation capacity ahead of the 2023 totals.
Occupancy and length of stay
While the headline figures describe how many rooms and beds were available, BPS also reports that the average room occupancy rate across Manggarai Barat hotels in 2023 was around 40 percent.
The same BPS material notes that guests stayed for just under two nights on average, indicating relatively short stays typical of tourism-driven destinations.
These indicators suggest that the regency’s hotel capacity was actively used, though they do not show month-by-month variation or differences between individual properties.
Star and non-star hotels
The breakdown between 16 star-rated and 89 non-star hotels highlights the role of smaller and more basic accommodation in Manggarai Barat’s tourism economy.
Star-rated hotels accounted for part of the available capacity, but non-star establishments made up the majority of properties, offering additional rooms and beds across the regency.
For visitors, the mix of hotel types means a range of price points and service levels, from full-service hotels to more modest lodgings.
