Labuan BajoManggarai Barat’s Tourism, Creative Economy and Culture Office plans to run a 400-respondent Visitor Exit Survey in Labuan Bajo from 1 October to 30 November 2026, under a statistical recommendation issued through Statistics Indonesia’s Romantik system for a “Survei Kepuasan Wisatawan (Visitor Exit Survey) Tahun 2026.”

The recommendation lists the survey organiser as the Tourism, Creative Economy and Culture Office of Manggarai Barat Regency and sets out an activity schedule covering preparation, fieldwork, data processing, analysis and presentation between September and December 2026.

According to the Romantik document, the survey aims to capture how domestic and foreign visitors experience Labuan Bajo, including their length of stay, spending and expectations of the destination. The stated objectives include measuring the duration of holidays for Indonesian and international visitors, their expenditure while in Labuan Bajo and their expectations of the destination.

Survey design and sample

The Romantik recommendation describes the activity as a survey using interviews and questionnaires, with visitors leaving Labuan Bajo serving as both the population and observation units. The document specifies that the unit sample is foreign and domestic tourists who are leaving Labuan Bajo in Manggarai Barat.

The planned sample size is 400 respondents. Sampling is described as purposive sampling, with the survey categorised as a cross-sectional design and listed as an annual activity.

The activity schedule in the recommendation sets preparation for 1–30 September 2026, fieldwork from 1 October to 30 November 2026, data processing between 1 and 30 November 2026, and presentation from 1 to 31 December 2026.

What the survey intends to measure

The Romantik document outlines a range of variables related to visitor profiles and experiences, including the origin of visitors, the duration of their stay, their spending and their expectations of Labuan Bajo as a destination. It states that one objective is to analyse visitor expectations of Labuan Bajo, alongside indicators such as holiday duration and expenditure.

The recommendation notes that the survey will focus on tourists who leave Labuan Bajo and aims to provide indicators that complement existing tourism statistics maintained by the local office of Statistics Indonesia, such as tables on visitor numbers and tourism activity in Manggarai Barat.

In the wider tourism data context, Statistics Indonesia’s Manggarai Barat office publishes regular tourism and transport indicators, including visitor statistics and domestic travel data to the regency, highlighting the importance of detailed visitor information for monitoring tourism trends. The planned Visitor Exit Survey is positioned in the Romantik document as part of efforts to obtain more precise indicators on length of stay and spending for Labuan Bajo’s visitors.

The Romantik recommendation does not list specific survey locations or coverage by province and regency in its coverage table. While the sample and observation units are identified as departing visitors from Labuan Bajo, the document does not specify particular transport hubs, accommodation areas or other departure points where interviews will take place.
