Labuan Bajo — Six fishermen were rescued after the Mori Sama 02 fishing vessel struck coral and sank south of Siaba Kecil in Komodo National Park on Thursday, 22 October 2026, according to the Maumere Search and Rescue Office and detikBali.
Nearby fishing boats also helped with the response, according to RRI.
The rescued fishermen and the vessel were towed towards Siaba Kecil after the evacuation, RRI reported. The operation then continued with the search for a separate missing passenger from the Feronia vessel, according to both reports.
Why it matters to Komodo waters
The incident shows a direct navigation hazard for vessels operating in the waters of Komodo National Park, where a fishing boat struck coral during a voyage. The reports do not provide official traffic or accident statistics for the park.
The rescue was conducted while the joint SAR team was carrying out the tenth day of a search connected to the Feronia sinking, detikBali reported. The Maumere Search and Rescue Office urged fishermen to prioritise safety, assess sea conditions and check vessel and safety-equipment readiness before sailing, RRI reported.
