Labuan Bajo — Manggarai Barat recorded 500.008 tourist visits in 2025, while 67.986 visitors paid entrance levies at destinations managed by the regency government. The levy revenue was IDR 2.330.510.000 (about US$141,000), according to figures reported by Detik and Vox NTT in January and October 2026.
The two totals measure different parts of the tourism system. The 500.008 figure covers visits to Labuan Bajo, including 432.022 visitors to Komodo National Park. The 67.986 figure covers visitors charged at destinations outside the national park and managed by Manggarai Barat’s tourism office.
Komodo National Park entrance tickets are collected by Balai Taman Nasional Komodo (BTNK), the Komodo National Park Authority. Detik reported that revenue from those tickets exceeded IDR 100 billion (about US$6.1 million) and was remitted to the central government as non-tax state revenue, rather than recorded as Manggarai Barat’s local revenue.
The 2025 visitor total included 341.955 international tourists and 158.053 domestic tourists. July recorded the highest monthly visitor total, at 73.275, while January recorded the lowest, at 16.646.
The levy figure therefore should not be read as the number of all visitors to Labuan Bajo. It is a count of visitors subject to charges at a defined group of regency-managed sites.
Why the distinction matters to Labuan Bajo readers
The distinction affects how tourism scale and local benefit are assessed. A large visitor total can coexist with a much smaller levy-paying total when major attractions fall under a different authority.
For residents, businesses and local policymakers, the figures separate tourism activity from the portion that directly enters the regency’s tourism revenue. The reported IDR 2.330.510.000 (about US$141,000) levy revenue was below the regency’s IDR 2,6 billion (about US$158,000) target, according to Detik.
Vox NTT reported the same broad distinction, stating that the regency-managed destinations generated about IDR 2,3 billion (about US$139,000), while the national park’s ticket income was not included in the district treasury. The reports do not state a new collection rule or a scheduled change to the current division of revenue.
