Labuan Bajo — Deputy Regent Yulianus Weng said property tax, known as Pajak Bumi dan Bangunan (PBB), remained an underused source of revenue in Manggarai Barat. PBB receipts had not reached IDR 3 billion (about US$181,000), while some taxpayers had not met their obligations.
He said the local government needed to improve taxpayer compliance and update records of taxable properties. The report also identified hotel and restaurant taxes as important contributors to district revenue through the tourism sector.
Why it matters to Komodo readers
Manggarai Barat is the district containing Labuan Bajo and Komodo National Park, so changes in locally generated revenue can affect public-finance priorities in a major visitor gateway.
The report attributed the tax comments to Deputy Regent Yulianus Weng. It said further potential existed among property taxpayers who had not yet fulfilled their obligations, making updated tax-object data and improved compliance central to the district’s effort to raise revenue.
The report did not state a deadline or specific next administrative measure beyond the need to strengthen compliance and refresh taxable-property records. The focus remained on improving collection from existing tax potential rather than identifying a new tax source or announcing a change in rates. Hotel and restaurant taxes were also described as important contributors to district revenue through tourism, alongside PBB. The report did not provide a separate collection figure for those sectors or specify an additional timetable for implementation.
