Labuan Bajo — BPOLBF backed the development of tourism villages in Manggarai Barat on 3 October 2026, saying the initiative could expand tourism’s contribution to the local economy and improve community welfare.
The Badan Pelaksana Otorita Labuan Bajo Flores (BPOLBF) supported the commitment and work of the Manggarai Barat government to develop tourism villages around Labuan Bajo. The district’s tourism, creative economy and culture office said the villages formed a supporting network for tourism in Labuan Bajo.
Manggarai Barat’s tourism office reported that the local government had carried out Fasmadewi, or Fasilitasi Masyarakat Desa Wisata, in two villages, including Wae Lolos, as a practical measure to support tourism-village development. The office also said Labuan Bajo had been designated by the central government as one of Indonesia’s Super Priority Tourism Destinations.
BPOLBF Acting President Director Frans Teguh said the authority fully supported the initiative because well-developed tourism could become a driver of the regional economy and raise community welfare. BPOLBF also said it would continue support through work programmes and collaboration with stakeholders.
Why it matters to Labuan Bajo readers
Tourism-village development could distribute visitor-related activity beyond Labuan Bajo’s established attractions and create more opportunities for communities in surrounding villages. The stated aim is to make tourism contribute more directly to the regional economy and community welfare.
The report identifies Wae Lolos as one of the villages involved in the district government’s support activity. It does not state a budget, visitor target or completion date for the programme.
BPOLBF said continued support and collaboration with stakeholders would be used to pursue sustainable tourism-village development and maximise its benefits.
