Ruteng — A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck 40 kilometres north of Ruteng, Manggarai, on Sunday afternoon, 4 October 2026.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, with its epicentre at 8.25° south latitude and 120.42° east longitude. The epicentre was located offshore, north of Ruteng. The event was a shallow earthquake linked to activity on the Flores Back-Arc Thrust, and its source mechanism involved upward movement.
Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) said the earthquake was felt at intensity II–III on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale in Manggarai. The reported shaking was light. BMKG’s modelling found no tsunami potential for the magnitude-4.7 earthquake.
