Kupang — The East Nusa Tenggara provincial government evaluated the response to the magnitude 7.7 Flores earthquake with seven affected district administrations in a virtual coordination meeting on 26 September 2026.
The meeting involved Nagekeo, Manggarai Barat, Manggarai Timur, Manggarai, Ngada, Ende and Sikka. Provincial officials, the provincial disaster agency and district administrations reviewed emergency-response status, transitions towards recovery and preparation of reconstruction plans.
The provincial government said Manggarai Barat's emergency transition was scheduled to end on 11 October 2026. Damage to houses had been verified through a regent's decree and submitted to the National Disaster Management Agency, or BNPB. Provincial officials advised the district to consider extending the transition so recovery documents could be completed within the available period.
Ngada had ended its emergency-response period and entered a three-month transition towards recovery through 16 December 2026 under Regent Decree No. 480. The official provincial report said 240 people remained in a central evacuation site in Riung district while temporary housing construction continued with local materials and BNPB support.
Recovery documents face a limited timetable
The provincial administration called on affected districts to complete data validation, public verification and signatures on proposed beneficiary documents. Those steps are needed before recovery assistance from BNPB can be processed.
Officials also asked districts to accelerate preparation of their Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Plans, known in Indonesia as R3P. The provincial report said the allocation period for this work was limited to 90 days.
Housing proposals from Manggarai Barat and Manggarai Timur had already been signed by the respective regional heads and local leadership forums. Manggarai's housing proposal was still awaiting signatures, while infrastructure, economic, social and cross-sector proposals remained under consolidation by district planning and disaster agencies.
RRI's report on the same provincial evaluation confirmed the virtual review and the participation of the seven affected districts. The two reports describe deadlines and administrative steps that were still in progress; they do not show that recovery work or assistance distribution had been completed.
For Flores residents, the transition dates determine how emergency support is linked to longer-term reconstruction. The provincial administration said basic needs, logistics and food for displaced residents must remain a priority while districts complete temporary housing and formal recovery decisions.
