Labuan Bajo — The Komodo National Park Authority (BTNK) began opening at least 500 additional visitor slots per day in stages for September–December 2026, according to reports published on October 1 and updated October 4.
The staged distribution follows an adjustment to visitor-quota arrangements for Komodo National Park. RRI reported that the policy covered the period from September through December 2026 and was carried out gradually rather than releasing the additional allocation for several months at once.
The authority’s announcement was dated September 22, 2026, according to RRI. The report said the additional allocation was intended to accommodate visitors who had not secured places after the annual quota was filled.
Why the staged slots matter to visitors
The arrangement means availability can change by day during the September–December 2026 period. RRI reported that travellers departing from Labuan Bajo should check the places released by BTNK because the additional quota was distributed in stages.
The reported adjustment does not describe a permanent replacement for the park’s broader visitor-quota framework. Detik Travel reported that the additional quota was limited to 500 visitors per day for the September–December 2026 period.
RRI also reported that the distribution could be adjusted according to demand, unused quota and conditions in the conservation area. The report attributed the explanation to Lugi Hartanto, acting head of BTNK, who said the additional allocation would not be opened in a large release covering several months at once.
A report published on October 3, 2026, said that BTNK updated the distribution and that at least 500 additional places per day were opened gradually through December. The report described the update as a staged release for the remaining period.
