Labuan Bajo — Indonesia’s Tourism Ministry said a sales mission in Pune, India, generated an estimated Rp12.8 billion in potential transactions and could lead to travel by 1,582 Indian visitors, according to reports citing the ministry. The event was held on Sept. 4 at Crowne Plaza Pune City Centre by IHG and was presented as a follow-up to Indonesia’s participation in ITB India 2026 in Mumbai.
The ministry said the business-to-business meeting brought together 12 Indonesian tourism companies and industry players with travel agents and tour operators from Pune and surrounding areas. The Indonesian participants included destination management companies, hotels, tour operators and restaurants, according to the reports.
Labuan Bajo was among the destinations promoted alongside Jakarta, Bali, Borobudur, Lake Toba, Mandalika, Raja Ampat, Batam-Bintan, Borneo and Lombok. The ministry also highlighted interest in products for free independent travel, honeymoon and couple trips, and luxury tourism, with Bali, the Borobudur-Yogyakarta-Prambanan area and Gili-Lombok drawing the strongest attention.
Deputy Minister for Marketing Ni Made Ayu Marthini said the ministry wants to deepen cooperation with travel associations, airlines, online travel platforms and other tourism businesses in India, according to the reports. The ministry also aims to increase the number of Indonesian destinations and products appearing in Indian travel catalogues.
Pune was chosen because of its economic growth and status as Maharashtra’s second-largest city after Mumbai, according to the cited reports. The city’s large technology, manufacturing, education and startup sectors were also cited as reasons for targeting the market.
The figures reported from the mission were potential transactions and projected travel, not confirmed bookings or arrivals. No specific Labuan Bajo deal, itinerary or commercial partnership was identified in the published reports.
