Larantuka — Flores Timur officials confirmed on 28 October 2026 that presidential assistance for two people who died in the Flores earthquake is included in the approved district allocation and is moving through disbursement procedures.

Deputy Regent Ignasius Boli Uran said the district government’s planned IDR 20 billion (about US$1.2 million) presidential allocation had been verified and approved by the central government. The allocation also covers needs arising from the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, according to Flores Timur reporting.

Social Affairs head Benediktus Herin identified the deceased as Bernadus Muda of Lewopao village in Ile Boleng district and Mateus Noba Noba of Waiula village in Tanjung Bunga district.

The money remains in the district’s financial account. It is to be transferred to the Social Affairs Office before the next processing stages, while beneficiary data has already been collected. Officials did not give a firm payment deadline.

Why the Flores Timur allocation matters

The decision links two emergency responses within one district allocation: death assistance for families affected by the 15 August 2026 Flores earthquake and support for survivors of the continuing Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption. The arrangement means the approved presidential funds are not limited to one type of disaster response.

The earthquake had a magnitude of 7.7, and its effects were felt in Flores Timur. The district was also included in the presidential assistance because of the Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption, according to the reports.

What happens next: The district finance account is expected to transfer the funds to the Social Affairs Office, which will then continue processing payment to the two heirs. The reports did not state when the transfers will be completed.
