Indonesia Education Ministry Pledges Rp860 Million for 61 NTT Schools
The Education Ministry allocated Rp860 million in emergency vouchers for 61 quake-hit schools in Flores, while also sending books, kits and food aid to Nagekeo and Ngada.

Labuan Bajo — Indonesia’s Primary and Secondary Education Ministry has allocated Rp860 million in emergency cash vouchers for 61 schools affected by the Flores earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara, according to a ministry statement and local reporting on the minister’s visit to Nagekeo on Aug. 24, 2026.
Minister Abdul Mu’ti said the schools would also be prioritized for the ministry’s revitalization program, which is intended to support longer-term recovery after the quake, the ministry said.
The ministry also distributed immediate aid to schools and nearby communities in Nagekeo and Ngada, including 9,400 non-textbooks, 495 school kits, 30 family kits, 1,000 T-shirts and 1,650 food packages, according to the ministry statement and local news coverage.
Damage assessment and recovery plan
The Rp860 million is described as initial assistance for 61 schools, not a full reconstruction budget. In one local report, Mu’ti said the amount was divided by damage level, with 32 heavily damaged schools each set to receive Rp15 million and 29 lightly damaged schools each set to receive Rp10 million.
That same report said the ministry was collecting damage data to determine further needs and to prepare the next phase of revitalization funding.
The ministry’s release said schools in Nagekeo and Ngada were among the first recipients of support, but it did not publish a school-by-school list in the material reviewed.
Separate government and ministry updates published after the quake said the disaster affected hundreds of schools across seven regencies, underscoring that the 61-school package was only part of a wider recovery effort.
On Aug. 24, Mu’ti visited affected schools in Nagekeo, where emergency learning was taking place, according to the ministry statement.
The ministry said reconstruction and revitalization work would proceed after damage assessments and budget procedures were completed.
