BPOLBF mentoring programme reaches about 200 MSMEs across Floratama area

Labuan Bajo — The Labuan Bajo Flores Tourism Authority (BPOLBF) says it has provided mentoring and training to around 200 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across its coordination area in East Nusa Tenggara, as part of its Floratama Academy business incubation programme.

The figure was reported in local coverage of BPOLBF’s MSME programmes published on 12 September 2026, which quoted BPOLBF officials describing ongoing assistance for hundreds of businesses across the Floratama area.

BPOLBF operates under Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and is tasked with accelerating tourism development in Labuan Bajo and surrounding districts.

Acting BPOLBF President Director Andhy M. T. Marpaung has previously explained that the authority does not directly manage MSMEs, but focuses on mentoring and capacity-building through programmes such as Floratama Academy, in collaboration with local governments and tourism stakeholders.

Floratama Academy and MSME support

According to reporting on Floratama Academy 2026, BPOLBF’s flagship incubation programme offers training, product standardisation and narrative development for local enterprises, particularly in food and tourism-related businesses.

The programme, now in its sixth iteration since its launch in 2021, is designed to strengthen supply chains and improve the quality and competitiveness of local products to serve the growing tourism market in Labuan Bajo and Flores.

Earlier editions of Floratama Academy and related BPOLBF programmes have brought selected MSMEs through stages of coaching, bootcamps and mentoring, with participants drawn from the wider Floratama area — Flores, Lembata, Alor and parts of Bima.

Coordination area across NTT and Bima

BPOLBF’s coordination mandate extends beyond Labuan Bajo to a network of districts in East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara.

BPOLBF Public Communications Division Head Sisilia Jenita Jemana has described the authority’s coordination responsibilities in 10 districts in East Nusa Tenggara: Alor, Lembata, East Flores, Sikka, Ende, Nagekeo, Ngada, East Manggarai, Manggarai and West Manggarai.

In addition, BPOLBF documents and local media reports state that the authority has a coordination role in two subdistricts of Bima in West Nusa Tenggara province — Sape and Lambu — which form part of the buffer and transition area of the Komodo Biosphere Reserve.

These areas collectively make up the agency’s Floratama coordination zone, within which MSME capacity-building and tourism development programmes, including Floratama Academy, are implemented.

Scope of MSME assistance

Local media reports indicate that the approximately 200 assisted MSMEs are spread across BPOLBF’s coordination districts, from West Manggarai on Flores Island to Alor Island.

The support focuses on capacity building and business incubation, including training in product development, business models, market access and tourism standards.

Floratama Academy activities have included both in-person and hybrid sessions in Labuan Bajo and other towns in Flores, with participants selected from MSMEs active in tourism and creative-economy sectors.

Available reports do not detail the breakdown of assisted MSMEs by district, the exact number of training sessions held or specific business performance outcomes such as changes in sales, employment or certification.

Even so, BPOLBF and its partners present the programme as a long-term effort to build a stronger, more competitive base of local enterprises capable of serving international visitors and contributing to sustainable tourism development in eastern Indonesia.
