Komodo National Park — A travel feature published on 1 November 2026 described Komodo National Park as one of two national parks on Flores, alongside Kelimutu National Park in Ende Regency.
Why it matters: The feature provides travellers and conservation readers with sourced reference figures on the park’s reported area, islands and biodiversity, but records no change to visitor conditions.
The feature said Komodo National Park covers 178,746.39 hectares and includes about 147 islands: five main islands and 142 smaller islands. It identified the Komodo dragon and the lesser sulphur-crested cockatoo among the park’s wildlife.
UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme describes the wider Komodo biosphere reserve as including Komodo, Rinca and Padar, together with numerous islets. It records a marine environment with coral reefs, more than 260 species of reef-building coral and more than 1,000 species of bony fish.
The UNESCO profile gives the biosphere reserve a total surface area of 1,118,003 hectares, including 332,951 hectares of terrestrial area and 785,052 hectares of marine area. Those figures refer to the biosphere reserve rather than the national park area cited in the travel feature.
The feature also described Kelimutu National Park as covering 5,356.50 hectares in Ende Regency. Its account focused on the attractions and biodiversity of the two parks and did not announce a new visitor rule, closure, fee change or safety warning.
