Ahmad Zaki Ali’s Remains Flown From Labuan Bajo to Jakarta

Labuan Bajo — The remains of humanitarian volunteer Ahmad Zaki Ali were flown to Labuan Bajo on Saturday, 22 August 2026, after a helicopter evacuation from the Reo area in Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara, according to Basarnas and local reporting.

Authorities said the body was taken to RSUD Pratama Komodo in Labuan Bajo for preparation before continuing to Jakarta later the same day. The transfer came after Zaki died while delivering aid to residents affected by a major earthquake in Flores, according to police and rescue officials cited in the reports.

Basarnas deputy for operations and preparedness Edy Prakoso said the agency transported the remains out of the affected area and expressed condolences to Zaki’s family and fellow volunteers, according to the reports.

Volunteer died during aid mission

Police identified the victim as Ahmad Zaki Ali, a volunteer from Jakarta associated with Gerak Bareng, according to the reports. They said he was travelling with other volunteers from Reo toward Satar Padut in East Manggarai when he became unwell and later died after being taken to a medical post.

The reports say he was carrying aid for earthquake-affected residents. They do not provide a confirmed medical cause of death.

At the time of evacuation, the remains were brought first to Labuan Bajo by helicopter and then to the hospital for handling before the planned onward flight to Jakarta, according to the same reports.
