Labuan Bajo — — Indonesia’s Ministry of Social Affairs has distributed compensation to victims of the August 15, 2026 Flores earthquake in Sikka Regency, with local authorities reporting payments to one family of a deceased victim and dozens of people classified as severely injured.

According to a report by FloresPos.net, the Ministry channelled compensation in Sikka to 47 recipients, comprising the heir of one person who died and 46 people who suffered serious injuries in the earthquake. The article states that the distribution took place on Thursday, 10 September 2026.

FloresPos.net reports that the family or legal heir of the deceased victim in Sikka received Rp15 million, while each person with a severe injury received Rp5 million. Those rates are consistent with national compensation levels described by the Ministry of Social Affairs in coverage by other Indonesian media, which report that heirs of each deceased victim of the Flores earthquake are entitled to Rp15 million and severely injured survivors to Rp5 million.

Distribution in Sikka

FloresPos.net quotes Kristianus Amstrong, acting head of the Sikka Social Affairs Agency, as saying that the assistance was distributed on 10 September 2026. He states that the payments were part of Ministry of Social Affairs support for residents affected by the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Flores on 15 August 2026.

The FloresPos.net report attributes the data on recipients and categories to the Sikka Social Affairs Agency and describes the Ministry of Social Affairs as the provider of the funds. It specifies two categories of compensation in Sikka: death and severe injury, with one case in the death category and 46 in the severe-injury category.

Under the compensation levels reported for Sikka, the calculated value of payments for this group is Rp245 million: Rp15 million for the deceased victim’s heir and Rp5 million each for 46 people with severe injuries.

Eligibility and verification

FloresPos.net reports that eligibility in Sikka was determined using medical records and information supplied by the Sikka Health Agency. It states that these records were then verified by an assigned team before compensation was distributed.

The report notes that the assistance covered residents of Sikka Regency, including those on Palue Island, although it does not break down the 47 recipients by subdistrict or provide separate figures for Palue.

Earlier Palue handover

FloresPos.net also reports that 34 residents of Palue District in Sikka received compensation from the Ministry of Social Affairs on Tuesday, 8 September 2026. The coverage says the payments were handed over during a visit by East Nusa Tenggara Governor Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena, who was accompanied by Sikka Regent Juventus Prima Yoris Kago.

Separate reports by other Indonesian media on the governor’s visit to Palue state that 34 residents injured in the earthquake received Rp5 million each in compensation from the Ministry of Social Affairs. These outlets describe the payments as part of national assistance for victims of the Flores earthquake and confirm the governor’s role in delivering the compensation in Palue.

Neither FloresPos.net nor the other reports clarify whether the 34 Palue residents are counted within the 47 recipients recorded in Sikka, or whether they represent a separate tranche of compensation in the same regency. The available coverage also does not state how many of the 34 Palue recipients were classified as severely injured under the verification process used in Sikka.

Wider programme across Flores

FloresPos.net reports that the compensation distribution in Sikka formed part of a wider Ministry of Social Affairs programme for victims of the Flores earthquake across seven affected districts: Sikka, Ende, Ngada, Nagekeo, East Manggarai, Manggarai and West Manggarai. National media have separately reported that the Ministry prepared compensation for heirs of victims who died and for survivors with severe injuries throughout Nusa Tenggara Timur, with Rp15 million set for each death and Rp5 million for each severely injured person.

The 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Flores on 15 August 2026, causing fatalities and injuries across multiple districts of Nusa Tenggara Timur. National disaster-agency data cited by Indonesian outlets indicate that Sikka was among the districts reporting deaths and injuries, and that the Ministry of Social Affairs coordinated with local governments to deliver both emergency relief and compensation.
