Sumba Barat — — Kampung Adat Prai Ijing in West Sumba is expanding community-based heritage tourism around its traditional houses, megalithic sites, weaving and local customs, with revenue reported to have grown 26% by the end of 2025 after receiving support from Bank Central Asia’s Bakti BCA programme starting in 2024, according to BCA and subsequent local media coverage.
The traditional village, located in Tebara in Sumba Barat, is noted for its tall-roofed houses and stone graves that form part of a living cultural landscape visited by domestic and international tourists.
BCA states that its assistance in Prai Ijing focuses on strengthening human resources and village institutions so residents become the main actors in managing tourism and sharing its economic benefits, while maintaining cultural practices and local wisdom.
What visitors can book
Prai Ijing’s tourism awareness group (Pokdarwis) works with Bakti BCA to offer packaged experiences that combine guided village visits, cultural activities and local food.
The longer option, the Prai Ijing Full Day Tour, runs for six to eight hours and is priced at Rp430,000 per person
According to reporting on the programme, this package includes a tour of the village with a local guide, explanations of traditional house architecture and village history, traditional games, a local lunch, a weaving workshop and opportunities to take photographs in Sumbanese clothing.
The shorter Prai Ijing Heritage Tour lasts up to three hours and costs Rp250,000 per person.
This option is described as covering a historical walk through the village, a workshop on making woven cloth, local snacks, photo sessions in traditional dress, a local guide and a souvenir.
Visitors who want to stay overnight can book a homestay in Prai Ijing for Rp300,000 per person per night, including three meals, according to BCA and local reports.
The programme is linked to several local businesses and activities, including food providers, traditional-clothing rental, souvenir makers and weaving artisans, reflecting a community-based tourism model in which multiple households participate in services for visitors.
Key price and duration data:
- Full Day Tour: Rp430,000 per person; six to eight hours.
- Heritage Tour: Rp250,000 per person; up to three hours.
- Homestay: Rp300,000 per person per night; three meals included.
Living culture, not only a photo stop
The visitor programme presents Prai Ijing as a lived cultural setting rather than only a scenic viewpoint.
Guests can see the village’s traditional houses, learn about local history and take part in short weaving sessions that introduce basic steps in arranging threads and producing cloth, according to descriptions of the packages.
One featured activity is Kagorokana Alu, a traditional bamboo game associated with skill, enjoyment and community togetherness in BCA’s material and local coverage.
The programme gives visitors the chance to wear Sumbanese clothing for photographs, while emphasising that Prai Ijing remains an inhabited village where cultural practices are part of daily life.
Academic studies note that tourism in Prai Ijing is developed on a community basis and has provided additional income for residents through village enterprises and guided visits.
Context and timeline
Prai Ijing’s recent tourism development is closely tied to support from Bakti BCA, which began assisting the village in 2024 as part of a broader corporate social responsibility initiative across several destinations.
According to BCA, Prai Ijing recorded 26% revenue growth by the end of 2025 following this mentoring, with residents increasingly involved in managing tourism services, homestays and cultural activities.
A February 2026 BCA release also reports that the Tebara–Prai Ijing tourism area generated around Rp1.4 billion in tourism income in 2025 and saw a 67% increase in visitor numbers, framing tourism as a tool to strengthen local livelihoods.
Feature coverage in national media subsequently highlighted Prai Ijing as a destination where residents maintain traditions while developing tourism, citing the same 26% income growth figure and the role of Bakti BCA in institutional strengthening.
Academic work on Prai Ijing and Tebara describes the area as a potential cultural tourism destination with megalithic graves, traditional houses and unique rituals, managed by local institutions and providing additional income to villagers through community-based tourism.
