Maumere — NU Care-LAZISNU Sikka distributed food assistance on Sunday, 20 September 2026, to 50 households affected by the recent Flores earthquake in Alok and Alok Barat subdistricts in Sikka, East Nusa Tenggara, according to local media reports.
The distribution formed part of the NU Peduli Kemanusiaan Gempa Flores NTT humanitarian campaign and was supported by NU Care-LAZISNU PCINU South Korea, which channelled donations from the Indonesian Muslim community in South Korea to affected residents in Sikka.
According to Florespedia and Tribun Flores, the aid operation targeted three locations: the main NU Peduli relief post at the Sikka branch office of Nahdlatul Ulama, Kampung Buton in Kota Uneng village, and Kampung Bebeng in Wolomarang village.
Local reports state that the distribution reached 50 households, or about 200 people. The allocation was described as follows: 15 households at the main relief post at the Sikka PCNU office, 15 households in Kampung Buton in Kota Uneng, Alok, and 20 households in Kampung Bebeng in Wolomarang, Alok Barat.
Florespedia and Tribun Flores reported that the packages contained basic food items including rice, eggs, tea, coffee, milk, cooking oil and granulated sugar, intended to support families coping with disrupted livelihoods and damage to housing in the wake of the earthquake.
Distribution and local coordination
The assistance was entrusted by NU Care-LAZISNU PCINU South Korea to NU Care-LAZISNU Sikka for local delivery, in coordination with the broader NU Peduli NTT response network. The operation in Sikka was accompanied by NU Care-LAZISNU Sikka chairman Hariyanto, along with PCNU Sikka officials Rais Syuriyah Hasan, Ghozish Fhalevi and Budi Arifandi, and the local NU Care-LAZISNU team, according to Florespedia.
Florespedia quoted NU Care-LAZISNU Sikka secretary Aklamin expressing appreciation to the South Korea chapter and its donors, and highlighting the importance of solidarity among communities in supporting residents affected by the Flores earthquake. NU Online has reported that NU Peduli NTT has continued to distribute assistance across several affected districts, including Sikka, since early September.
The reported locations place the Sikka distribution across a mix of central and neighborhood sites. Fifteen households received aid at the central post at the Sikka PCNU office, while the remaining 35 households were served in Kampung Buton and Kampung Bebeng in Alok and Alok Barat.
Earthquake impact in Sikka and Flores
The food distribution took place about five weeks after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Flores on 15 August 2026, affecting seven districts including Sikka, Manggarai, Manggarai Timur, Manggarai Barat, Ngada, Nagekeo and Ende. National and regional media, citing BMKG and BNPB data, have reported thousands of aftershocks across Flores since mid-August, with the strongest reaching magnitude 6.2 and shaking recorded up to intensity VII on the Modified Mercalli scale in parts of the affected districts.
According to RRI and other Indonesian outlets, Sikka has reported significant damage and displacement. RRI cited local disaster management data indicating that more than 350,000 residents in Sikka were affected and thousands remained displaced in early September, with Pulau Palue among the worst-hit areas.
Government-linked broadcasters have reported that Sikka and Manggarai Barat ended their formal emergency response phase on 12 September 2026 and moved into a 30-day transition period from emergency to recovery, while warning residents to remain cautious as aftershocks continued.
Within this broader context of ongoing recovery, NU Care-LAZISNU Sikka’s 20 September food distribution represents one of the documented civil society initiatives aimed at providing direct support to households in affected urban and rural communities in Sikka.
