How to check Labuan Bajo air and sea access before Komodo travel
Labuan Bajo access combines a busy scheduled-air route with separate official forecasts for the harbour and surrounding waters, so airport traffic and sea conditions must be read independently.

For travel around Komodo National Park, access decisions depend on two official checks: flights through Komodo International Airport and marine conditions around Labuan Bajo. The latest sourced airport figure records 21,927 passengers by 25 December 2025, while BMKG forecasts should be checked for the specific port or waters period before a sea journey.
How busy is Komodo International Airport?
Scheduled-flight monitoring by Indonesia’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation recorded 21,927 passengers through Komodo Airport by 25 December 2025, compared with 20,408 in the same period of 2024, according to the ministry directorate, 2025.
The same government report recorded 226 flights by that date, compared with 180 during the corresponding 2024 period. It identified Jakarta–Labuan Bajo and Denpasar–Labuan Bajo as the most-used routes in that monitoring period, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, 2025.
What should sea travellers check?
BMKG publishes separate forecasts for Labuan Bajo port and the surrounding waters, rather than treating them as one identical marine forecast. Its port forecast dated 21 September 2026 listed 0.1-metre waves and an easterly-northeasterly wind of 15 knots for the displayed period, according to BMKG, 2026.
For Labuan Bajo waters, BMKG’s forecast on the same date listed 0.8-metre waves, northeasterly wind of 11 knots and gusts of 17 knots. The distinction matters because conditions at the harbour and in open or wider waters can differ, according to BMKG, 2026.
Where is the official forecast found?
BMKG provides dedicated products for Labuan Bajo port, Labuan Bajo waters and maritime tourist areas. The agency’s tourism-weather service identifies seven Labuan Bajo maritime locations, while its marine map warns that the map is a modelling product and directs users to analysed port and waters forecasts for more detail, according to BMKG, 2026.
Does an airport figure guarantee a boat departure?
No. The airport report measures scheduled aviation traffic during a defined holiday-monitoring period; it does not establish a marine departure timetable or guarantee that a particular boat movement will operate.
For sea access, the relevant official evidence is the BMKG forecast for the applicable port or waters area and validity period. The airport and marine products therefore answer different access questions: how much scheduled air traffic was recorded, and what conditions were forecast at sea.
