Kupang — BMKG, Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency, warned of potential tidal flooding along coastal areas of East Nusa Tenggara from 8 to 10 October 2026. The warning covers the Flores-Alor, Sabu-Raijua, Sumba and Timor-Rote coasts, according to BMKG information reported by Radar Jogja.

BMKG said the risk is linked to the new-moon phase on 10 October 2026, which could raise maximum sea levels. The agency advised people in affected coastal areas to remain alert and monitor updated maritime-weather information.

The potential flooding could disrupt activity around ports and coastal areas, including loading and unloading, settlements, salt ponds and inland fisheries. BMKG said the warning was issued through the Tenau Kupang Maritime Meteorological Station.

Why it matters to Komodo readers

The warning includes the Flores-Alor coast, placing coastal communities and maritime activity in Flores within the stated risk period. Conditions around ports and other low-lying coastal areas may be affected if sea levels reach their maximum during the warning period.

BMKG’s maritime information identifies the new moon as a contributing factor and says tidal predictions, wind speed and wave height can influence coastal dynamics. The agency’s guidance is for people in affected coastal areas to stay alert and follow the latest maritime-weather updates.

The alert period runs through 10 October 2026. No closure or other operational measure was stated in the reports.
