Health Teams Treat 1,550 Earthquake Survivors in East Manggarai
Health workers in East Manggarai treated 1,550 earthquake survivors across remote villages in a 14-day emergency response, with two patients referred to Borong Hospital.

Borong — Health workers from Weleng Community Health Centre and the Class I Kupang Health Quarantine Office provided medical services to 1,550 earthquake survivors across Weleng’s coverage area in East Manggarai, according to local reporting published on 4 September 2026.
The teams worked during a 14-day emergency response and served survivors in the North Lambaleda area, including Nampar Tabang, Liang Deruk and Golo Munga Barat villages, the report said. Two survivors were referred to Borong Hospital by ambulance.
The same report said outreach teams reached especially isolated settlements, including Kawak and Mengge, by walking through mountainous terrain and, in one area, crossing a river described as hazardous.
Among the health personnel named in the report were volunteers from the Kupang quarantine office and staff from Weleng Community Health Centre. The article also said the response ended with a farewell ceremony at the health centre before volunteers returned to their regular duties.
Earlier reporting by a separate local outlet said emergency health workers in Manggarai Timur had been deployed to shelters and tents after the earthquake, and that the district had launched a wider medical response for affected residents. That report said the main complaints among patients included respiratory illness, diarrhoea and coughs and colds.
The outreach forms part of the broader post-earthquake response on Flores, where health authorities and local facilities have been treating residents displaced by the disaster. A national broadcaster also reported that the Ministry of Health deployed reserve health workers to several regencies on Flores, including East Manggarai, to strengthen mental-health and psychosocial support during the emergency period.
The report did not provide a breakdown of how many people were treated in each village, nor did it specify individual diagnoses for the two referrals to Borong Hospital.
