BNPB reports nearly 1,954 tons of aid dispatched to NTT quake survivors

Labuan Bajo — Indonesia’s disaster agency says nearly 1,954 tons of relief supplies had been sent to communities hit by the magnitude 7.7 earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara by Sunday, 30 August 2026, with almost all of the aid distributed through logistics hubs in Maumere and Labuan Bajo, according to BNPB’s public briefings.

Acting head of BNPB’s Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center Berton SP Panjaitan said 1,953,849 kilograms of aid had been dispatched out of a reported 1,985,736 kilograms received between 15 and 30 August, equivalent to a distribution rate of 98.39 percent, according to national media reports and subsequent summaries of the agency’s data.

The figures cover supplies that entered the national operation during the 15–30 August reporting window. BNPB’s publicly reported data categorize the aid by distribution channel rather than by type of item, so the breakdown between food, water, shelter materials and medical supplies was not detailed in the briefings cited by Indonesian outlets.

How the aid moved

According to coverage of BNPB’s 30 August news conference, the largest delivery channel was the Ready-to-Use Fund, which accounted for around 1,065 tons of logistics sent to affected areas.

Air transport provided about 565 tons, sea shipments carried 179 tons, and road transport delivered 145 tons, based on figures attributed to Berton in the same briefing. Those four channels together total approximately 1,954 tons, in line with the cumulative aid volume reported after rounding.

Media reports citing the BNPB spokesperson also noted that additional consignments continued to depart national logistics posts around the same period, including flights from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in East Jakarta bound for Labuan Bajo with mixed cargoes such as food packages, medicines, instant noodles, mineral water, rice, toiletries, baby kits, clothing and stationery.

Evacuee numbers and casualties

BNPB data released on 30 August and reported by Indonesian outlets showed that 188,161 people in East Nusa Tenggara were still displaced at that point, a decrease of 4,142 compared with the previous day, as some evacuees began returning home.

The largest concentrations of evacuees were recorded in Nagekeo and Manggarai regencies, each with just over 50,000 people, according to agency figures cited by national media. Other districts with substantial displaced populations included East Manggarai, West Manggarai, Ngada, Sikka and Ende, reflecting the wide geographic spread of damage from the Flores quake.

BNPB’s casualty updates through 28–30 August consistently reported 111 deaths linked to the magnitude 7.7 earthquake, with the highest tolls in Manggarai, East Manggarai and Nagekeo, according to multiple Indonesian news organisations drawing on the agency’s official briefings.

While the number of evacuees showed a gradual decline and logistics coverage was reported at more than 98 percent for the late-August period, BNPB and local media noted that aftershocks continued to affect the region, and damage assessments and reconstruction planning were still underway across affected parts of Flores and the surrounding islands.
