Labuan Bajo — BMKG warned of moderate waves in the waters around Labuan Bajo and Komodo National Park through 6 October 2026. The warning covers 4–25-knot winds across areas of East Nusa Tenggara, which could raise sea-wave heights and affect shipping conditions.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) said winds in East Nusa Tenggara were generally moving from the northeast to southeast. The highest wind speeds were recorded in several waters, including Labuan Bajo and Komodo National Park.
BMKG classified moderate waves as 1.25–2.5 metres. Its maritime guidance says this category can create risks for vessels operating in affected waters, including local fishing boats and other shipping.
Why the warning matters to Komodo readers
Labuan Bajo is a departure point for sea journeys to Komodo National Park, so conditions in the surrounding waters are directly relevant to maritime travel and liveaboard operations. The warning applies through 6 October 2026, giving operators and passengers a defined period to monitor conditions before sailing.
BMKG’s warning covers several East Nusa Tenggara waters in addition to Labuan Bajo and Komodo National Park. The agency linked the potential increase in wave height to the prevailing wind pattern and higher wind speeds in the region.
