Kodi — BMKG recorded 62 aftershocks after the October 4 earthquake off southwest Sumba Barat Daya and reported damage to homes and a school in Perokonda Village.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said the earthquake was initially recorded at magnitude 6.1 before its parameter was updated to M5.9. The event occurred at 05:55:52 WIB, equivalent to 06:55:52 WITA (UTC+8), and was located offshore southwest of Sumba Barat Daya at a depth of 30 kilometres.
BMKG said the earthquake had no tsunami potential. By 08:05 WIB, or 09:05 WITA (UTC+8), its monitoring recorded 62 aftershocks ranging from M1.5 to M4.3.
Reports cited by BMKG said residential buildings and school facilities were damaged in Perokonda Village, Kodi, Sumba Barat Daya, East Nusa Tenggara.
