Kupang — The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecast no rain across East Nusa Tenggara on Thursday, 22 October 2026, with hazy, sunny or cloudy conditions and temperatures of 17–36°C.
BMKG El Tari Kupang said the province would remain under the influence of the active east monsoon. The agency warned that dry strong winds could raise the risk of forest and land fires across Nusa Tenggara Timur.
The forecast covered 21–23 October 2026, when BMKG said no rainfall was expected in the province. The highest temperature, 36°C, was forecast for Sabu Raijua.
Local forecasts included wind speeds of 37 km/h in Kupang and Oelamasi, while Sabu was forecast to have winds of 24 km/h. Kupang was forecast to range from 24–34°C, Oelamasi from 21–35°C, and Sabu from 26–36°C.
Why it matters to Komodo readers
The dry forecast applies across East Nusa Tenggara, the province that includes the Komodo region. BMKG’s warning points to fire risk during the continuing dry season, while the absence of forecast rain signals persistently dry conditions for 22 October.
BMKG previously said the east monsoon remained active in NTT and that drying vegetation could allow fires to spread, particularly where open burning is uncontrolled. The agency’s forecast for 22 October did not identify rainfall that would ease those conditions.
