Kupang — BMKG warned of waves reaching up to 4 metres in the southern waters of East Nusa Tenggara from 23 to 26 October 2026. The warning covers the southern Indian Ocean waters off East Nusa Tenggara, where the conditions could disrupt maritime activity. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) urged shipping operators and coastal users to monitor official marine-weather updates before conducting activities at sea.

BMKG’s warning identifies wave heights of 2.5 to 4.0 metres in the southern Indian Ocean off East Nusa Tenggara. The agency said the conditions could affect shipping, while a separate report said fishermen, vessel operators and people using sea transport should remain alert to the marine conditions.

Why the warning matters to Komodo-area travellers

The waters south of East Nusa Tenggara are part of the wider sailing region used by vessels serving eastern Indonesian destinations. High waves can affect routes that depend on sea transport, particularly crossings and coastal activities exposed to the Indian Ocean. The warning period runs from 23 to 26 October 2026, so operators and coastal users need to check conditions during that window rather than rely on a single forecast.

BMKG advised the public and seafarers to monitor updated marine-weather information through its official website or the InfoBMKG application before going to sea. The agency’s forecast listed the southern Indian Ocean off East Nusa Tenggara among areas facing wave heights of 2.5 to 4.0 metres.

No port closure or cancellation was stated in the reports. The immediate action identified by BMKG is continued monitoring of marine-weather updates and local conditions throughout the warning period.
