Bank Indonesia Sends 32.5 Tons of Aid to Flores Earthquake Victims

Kupang — Bank Indonesia has delivered humanitarian assistance for communities affected by the Flores earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara, with the aid handed over symbolically in Kupang on 25 August 2026, according to Bank Indonesia and RRI Kupang.

The central bank said the relief reached 32.5 tons in total and was sent in stages to affected areas in NTT, including Palue Island, Sikka, Ende and Nagekeo. Bank Indonesia said the shipments were coordinated with the National Disaster Management Agency and the Indonesian Air Force.

At the first stage on 24 August, BI dispatched 8.5 tons of aid focused on urgent post-disaster needs such as medicines, mineral water, ready-to-eat meals and hygiene products, according to its release. A second shipment of 9.7 tons followed on 27 August and included staple foods and mineral water.

The third consignment, sent on 31 August, weighed 14.3 tons and included tents, camping beds, generators, additional medicines and ready-to-eat meals, BI said. The bank added that it was also working to keep banking liquidity in affected areas functioning and to support access to rupiah cash in hard-to-reach locations.

RRI Kupang reported that BI’s NTT representative, Adidoyo Prakoso, formally handed the aid to Governor Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena on 25 August. The local outlet said the support covered basic necessities and facilities or infrastructure assistance, without giving a full itemized breakdown.

Governor Laka Lena thanked BI for the assistance, according to RRI Kupang. He said the support reflected BI’s role in helping the province respond to the disaster and recover from its effects.

The aid came as recovery efforts continued after the earthquake in Flores, which affected multiple districts across the island. Bank Indonesia said the relief was being delivered in phases as needs evolved during the emergency response.
