Labuan Bajo — Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG) forecasts generally light rain across Indonesia from 6 to 8 November 2026, while Nusa Tenggara Timur is among the areas warned of strong winds during the same period.
The forecast covers 6–12 November 2026 and says moderate to heavy rain may still occur in some areas, potentially accompanied by lightning and strong winds. The warning does not mean that every location in Nusa Tenggara Timur will experience severe weather, but it places the province among the areas requiring increased caution.
Why it matters for Flores travel
Flores sits within Nusa Tenggara Timur, so the provincial warning is relevant to travel between destinations on the island. Weather conditions can change during a journey, particularly when road, boat or flight connections depend on local conditions. The official Flores forecast reported by Stasiun Meteorologi El Tari Kupang also described light to moderate rain potential from 7 to 9 November 2026.
That Flores forecast identified light-rain potential in Ende, Bajawa, Borong and Labuan Bajo during the afternoon, while Ruteng was warned of moderate rain. It also said rain could be accompanied by lightning and short-duration strong winds, and advised the public to keep updating forecasts and early warnings through BMKG’s official channels.
BMKG attributed the broader weather pattern to dynamic atmospheric conditions during a period when El Niño remained very strong. Its national forecast said the MJO was expected to cross areas including Bali, Nusa Tenggara Barat and Nusa Tenggara Timur. The agency also reported that sea-surface temperatures in NTT waters were expected to range from 28–30 degrees Celsius, while forecast air temperatures ranged from 16–37 degrees Celsius.
The forecast is a regional warning rather than a blanket travel cancellation. Travellers should use the latest local forecast for each part of Flores and check conditions again before making road, boat or flight connections.
