Manggarai Parents Move Children After Wae Ri’i Clash

Manggarai — Parents transferred some children from SD Inpres Timung in Wae Ri’i, Manggarai, after an inter-village clash, according to Floresa.co’s report on 24 September 2026. On 22 September, some seats were empty in the school’s emergency classroom.

The report said only 12 pupils from Kampung Timung, Desa Golo Cador, attended lessons in one classroom that day. Pupils from Kampung Wohe, Desa Bangka Jong, had stopped attending after tensions between residents of the two villages rose following a fight that killed a young man from Timung.

Parents told the report that they were considering moving their children to other schools because of the incident. One parent contacted Kosmas Agul, head of SD Inpres Timung, to request a transfer letter. Kosmas said he would coordinate with the Manggarai Education, Youth and Sports Office over the request for mass transfers.

Why the school disruption matters

The absence affects pupils whose schooling is taking place in an emergency classroom. It also shows how the clash has disrupted education across the two communities in Wae Ri’i.

The report said no pupils from Kampung Wohe had attended the school since 21 September. It added that sixth-grade pupils could not yet transfer because their education data had already been submitted, although the report said they might return to Timung after two weeks.

The clash began during a celebration in front of a party tent in Kampung Wohe on the night of 18 September, according to the report. Police had examined six witnesses and named two suspects, identified by the initials WR and AIJ, who were detained from 21 September.
