Riung tourism programme reaches operators after Flores earthquake

Riung — Forum Konservasi Mbou Riung reported on 23 September 2026 that its training and mentoring programme had reached tourism operators and small businesses in Riung, Ngada, as part of post-earthquake economic recovery efforts.

Project In Flores worked with Forum Konservasi Mbou Riung Ngada and the East Nusa Tenggara Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA NTT) on the programme, according to Pos-Kupang.com. The activity also involved forest farmer groups and was held at the Bintang Wisata Riung hall.

The programme included support for capacity-building, marketing and management of a community-based tourism ecosystem. The report said the assistance was intended to strengthen local skills and generate economic benefits for residents.

Tourism businesses in Riung are part of the local economic ecosystem affected by the Flores earthquake. The reported programme links tourism recovery with community capacity-building rather than focusing only on visitor facilities.

Forum chairman Nicolaus Noywuli said participants should use the mentoring period to develop their businesses and marketing independently. A separate RRI report said a community-resilience assessment was also conducted in Riung on 23 September 2026 as part of recovery efforts after the earthquake. That report concerned coordination and assessment of affected residents rather than the tourism training programme.
