Labuan Bajo certifies snorkeling guides for safer marine trips
The Ministry of Tourism ran Level III snorkeling-guide certification in Labuan Bajo on 23–24 September 2026 after a 22 September upskilling session. The programme focused on competence and safety.

Labuan Bajo — The Ministry of Tourism held Level III certification for snorkeling guides in Labuan Bajo on 23–24 September 2026, after an upskilling session on 22 September 2026.
The activity was organised with the Indonesian Tour Guide Professional Certification Institute (LSP Pramindo), the Labuan Bajo Flores Tourism Authority (BPOLBF), and the West Manggarai Regency Government. The certification took place in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.
According to BPOLBF, the three-day programme involved 40 tourism workers and guides. The programme was designed to improve service delivery and strengthen understanding of safety, risk identification, disaster mitigation and emergency response.
The certification assessment involved 30 people from 40 registrants, according to Pos Kupang. Assessments were held around Pede Beach and followed the competency standards required for snorkeling guides.
Why it matters to marine-tourism readers
The certification addresses the practical risks involved in snorkeling activities by testing technical ability, service standards, risk recognition and safety procedures. The Ministry of Tourism said the programme was intended to strengthen guide competence and safety in marine tourism.
The programme began on 22 September 2026 with internalisation of competency units based on Indonesia’s National Work Competency Standards for snorkeling guides. The assessment process then ran on 23–24 September 2026.
RRI reported that the certification process used assessors and staged practical sessions. By 23 September, 22 participants had taken part in the certification process, with practical testing conducted in groups.
BPOLBF is the Labuan Bajo Flores Tourism Authority, an Indonesian tourism-sector government body. The listed reports do not state a further deadline or subsequent action after the certification.
