Komodo National Park drew 334,206 visits in 2024, BTNK figures show

Labuan Bajo — Komodo National Park recorded 334,206 visits in 2024, with foreign visitors making up the larger share, according to figures attributed to the Komodo National Park Office (BTNK) and reported by Indonesian media. BTNK said 226,948 visits came from international tourists and 107,258 from domestic visitors.

Detik and other local outlets quoted BTNK chief Hendrikus Rani Siga as saying the park’s visitor numbers rose from 182,676 in 2022 to 300,488 in 2023 before reaching 334,206 in 2024. The same reporting said national non-tax revenue, or PNBP, from the park reached Rp53 billion in 2024.

Visitor growth

The reported figures indicate continued growth in tourism to the park, which covers both land and marine attractions around Komodo, including popular stops such as Komodo Island and Padar Island. The totals describe visits, not necessarily unique individuals, because the published figures do not specify whether repeat entries by the same person were excluded.

BTNK’s 2024 total was also cited by international reporting on Labuan Bajo tourism, which described Komodo National Park as the area’s main draw and said it welcomed 334,206 visitors that year. That cross-check supports the park’s annual total and the dominance of foreign arrivals.

Revenue and pressure on the park

BTNK’s revenue figure of Rp53 billion suggests the park’s commercial value continued to rise alongside visitor numbers. The increase from Rp20 billion in 2022 and Rp40 billion in 2023, as quoted in local reporting, points to a strong rebound in demand for entry and related services.

The annual totals matter for park management because they help gauge pressure on trails, boat landings and popular viewpoints, especially during peak travel months. However, the published figures do not provide a monthly breakdown or a destination-by-destination split within the park.

In 2024, BTNK said foreign visitors remained the largest group, underscoring the park’s continued appeal to international travellers and divers. The park’s official count is one of the clearest recent indicators of tourism demand in the Komodo area.
