How to check Komodo access: airport, port and marine weather
Komodo access depends on two separate checks: airport and port operations, plus the marine forecast for the waters beyond Labuan Bajo. Official updates show services operating, while conditions can vary sharply by location.

For travel to Komodo National Park, the practical access check is two-part: confirm that Komodo Airport and Labuan Bajo port are operating, then consult the latest marine forecast before any sea journey. The Transport Ministry reported on 25 September 2026 that airport and port services in the affected parts of East Nusa Tenggara remained operational, while BMKG’s forecast showed conditions can differ between the port and surrounding waters.
Is Komodo Airport operating?
Yes. The Transport Ministry said on 25 September 2026 that Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo remained operational and had not been closed, despite reported impacts in several East Nusa Tenggara transport facilities, according to the ministry’s 2026 update.
The ministry also said the region’s airport services continued with safety as the priority, according to the Transport Ministry, 2026. That status confirms operation, but it does not provide a flight timetable or guarantee that an individual service will run.
Is Labuan Bajo port operating?
Yes. The Transport Ministry reported that Labuan Bajo Port had suffered light to moderate damage but that ports in East Nusa Tenggara were serving ships and passengers while prioritising safety, according to the ministry, 2026.
The same ministry update said ports were generally operating normally, according to the Transport Ministry, 2026. This is an operational-status statement, not a published sailing schedule.
What should travellers check before a sea trip?
BMKG publishes separate forecasts for Labuan Bajo Port and the surrounding Labuan Bajo waters. In its forecast valid from 21 September 2026 to 24 September 2026, BMKG listed waves of 0.1 metres at the port and 0.8 metres in the surrounding waters, according to BMKG, 2026.
The difference shows why a port forecast alone does not describe conditions across a boat route. BMKG’s 21 September 2026 marine forecast also listed wind gusts of 17 knots in the surrounding waters, according to BMKG, 2026.
What does the airport weather report show?
BMKG’s Komodo Airport report on 25 September 2026 recorded partly cloudy conditions, visibility of 7 kilometres and wind of 9.3 kilometres per hour, according to BMKG, 2026.
Airport weather and marine weather measure different operating environments. A flight-facing forecast therefore cannot substitute for the marine forecast used for a journey from Labuan Bajo into the park.
