Freeport Indonesia Sends Rp2.5 Billion Aid to NTT Quake Survivors

Labuan Bajo — PT Freeport Indonesia has distributed humanitarian aid worth Rp2.5 billion to communities affected by the 7.7-magnitude earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara, including areas of Flores and Manggarai Barat, according to company statements and local media reports.

The aid combines the company’s corporate social responsibility funds with employee donations under the #PTFIPeduliNTT campaign, which were matched by the company using a double-match mechanism, according to coverage by Investortrust and Bisnis Indonesia. Employees across operations in Timika, Nabire, Gresik and Jakarta contributed to the fundraising effort.

The Rp2.5 billion package is being channeled primarily through the humanitarian organization Human Initiative, which is responsible for distributing emergency assistance in Nagekeo, Manggarai and East Manggarai regencies. Local reports say the response focuses on four sectors: food and nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene, temporary housing and settlements, and basic health services.

Aid targets four emergency sectors

According to the Jakarta Globe and Bisnis Indonesia, Human Initiative is distributing 700 aid packages funded by Freeport Indonesia. Each package consists of bedding kits, personal hygiene kits and shelter kits, alongside basic food supplies. The company is also supporting the construction of five temporary shelters and four emergency schools to serve families whose homes and community facilities were damaged in the quake.

Additional logistics support includes tents, blankets and other basic supplies for evacuees. The total logistics volume is reported at around 2.5 tons, transported to East Nusa Tenggara on a chartered Freeport flight, Investortrust reported.

The Indonesian Red Cross (Palang Merah Indonesia, PMI) has also received aid from Freeport Indonesia in the form of hygiene kits, staple food packages, shelter kits and bedding kits. Local media report that PMI’s allocation is valued at around Rp500 million and is intended to cover basic needs during the emergency-response period.

Emergency medical team deployed

Freeport Indonesia sent an emergency response team to East Manggarai shortly after the quake, according to Investortrust. The team operated in several villages and provided medical services to approximately 500 patients, supported rescue and evacuation work, and delivered psychosocial support activities for children.

Company representatives, including president director Tony Wenas, visited Cunca Wulang and other affected communities in Manggarai Barat at the beginning of September to hand over aid symbolically and review the conditions on the ground. The visits coincided with the formal announcement of the Rp2.5 billion humanitarian package.

Local officials in Manggarai Barat have separately reported extensive damage to housing and public facilities from the 15 August 2026 earthquake. Preliminary district data cited by regional media mention more than 10,000 damaged homes, ranging from light to heavy damage, as part of an ongoing verification process coordinated with the national disaster management agency.

National figures from the disaster agency indicate tens of thousands of damaged homes across seven districts in East Nusa Tenggara, including Nagekeo, Ende, Manggarai, East Manggarai, Manggarai Barat, Ngada and Sikka. The verified damage covers heavy, moderate and light categories and provides the basis for government assistance and relocation plans.

Freeport Indonesia has stated that its support will continue beyond the initial emergency phase, with a focus on health services, temporary housing and education facilities as communities in Manggarai Barat and other districts move from immediate response toward recovery.
