Labuan Bajo — The family of a 26-year-old parking-gate attendant at Marina Harbour has urged Manggarai Barat Police to detain a staff member of the KSOP Class III Labuan Bajo port authority over an alleged assault in the early hours of 14 August 2026.

The victim, identified as Engelbertus Abun, works at a parking ticket counter operated by PT Indonesia Ferry Property at Waterfront Marina, according to a detailed report by local outlet Floresa.co. A separate report by Detik Bali described him as a portal guard at Marina Harbour who was repeatedly struck by a KSOP employee.

Floresa.co reported that six relatives of Engelbertus visited Manggarai Barat Police headquarters on 3 September to press for the suspect’s detention and quicker progress in the case. The visit came several weeks after the incident, which had already drawn public attention and prompted a demonstration at the KSOP office on 14 August.

Alleged assault at Marina Harbour

According to Floresa.co, Engelbertus was on duty at the port’s parking gate when a Pertamina fuel tanker entered Marina Harbour around 01.00 WITA and left at about 03.00 WITA. He told the outlet that he raised the barrier to allow the truck to exit and was then punched suddenly by a KSOP staffer identified as Samuel.

Floresa.co said it obtained CCTV footage that appears to show Samuel striking Engelbertus in the face up to four times while the victim does not fight back. Detik Bali published a similar account, noting that CCTV images of the incident spread widely on social media and that the KSOP employee is seen slapping and punching the victim’s head and face four times as the victim retreats into a room.

The alleged assault took place near the entrance gate of Marina Harbour, a key access point for visitors and workers in Labuan Bajo. Detik Bali reported that the incident occurred around 03.15 WITA on 14 August 2026.

Medical findings and legal steps

Engelbertus’s legal representative, Jur Sintus Jemali, told Floresa.co that a visum et repertum — a formal medical examination for legal purposes — found a significant injury to the victim’s forehead. Jemali said Engelbertus complained of dizziness and blurred vision following the blows.

Floresa.co reported that Engelbertus filed a police complaint with Manggarai Barat Police on 14 August, the same day as the incident, and that his statement was taken and the medical examination conducted. Detik Bali separately reported that Engelbertus confirmed he had lodged a police report and was accompanied by family members at the station.

As of 3 September, Floresa.co quoted another legal representative, Sirilus Ladur, as saying that police had not yet summoned Samuel for questioning. In mid-September, Okebajo.com reported that Manggarai Barat Police had upgraded the case from preliminary inquiry to full investigation after obtaining what investigators considered sufficient evidence, and that the assault was now being handled by the criminal investigation unit.

KSOP response and prior allegation

KSOP Class III Labuan Bajo head Stefanus Risdiyanto acknowledged the incident in comments carried by Detik Bali on 14 August, confirming there had been physical violence involving a KSOP employee and stating that the office would conduct an internal examination. He said the review would seek objective facts and information and that disciplinary or employment-related action could follow if a violation was proven.

Floresa.co reported that Risdiyanto sent a written statement to the outlet on 14 August expressing concern and apologising to Engelbertus and his family. The statement said KSOP would examine both Samuel and Engelbertus as part of the internal process.

Floresa.co also noted that Samuel had previously been accused of assaulting traffic police officer Briptu Pedro Apri Sandy Bessie in March 2026. That earlier case was reportedly resolved amicably after Samuel allegedly struck the officer’s right ear with a helmet during a parking enforcement incident, according to the same report.

The family of Engelbertus has rejected attempts at a private settlement and insists that the legal process should proceed to establish accountability and deter similar conduct, Floresa.co reported.
