Labuan Bajo — BMKG warned fishermen and ferry-boat operators to remain alert to high waves of up to 4 metres in Indonesian waters from 15 to 18 October 2026.
The Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG), Indonesia’s meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency, issued the warning for the period 15–18 October 2026. It said waves of 2.5–4 metres could occur in the western Indian Ocean off the Mentawai Islands, Bengkulu and Lampung.
BMKG also warned of moderate waves measuring 1.25–2.5 metres in several Indonesian waters. The agency asked fishermen and marine-transport operators to increase caution during the period covered by the warning.
Why it matters to Labuan Bajo readers
The advisory applies to Indonesian maritime transport and is relevant to boat services operating from Labuan Bajo and nearby Flores waters. The report does not identify Labuan Bajo or the waters around Komodo National Park as locations in the 15–18 October high-wave list, so the specific local risk cannot be expanded beyond the warning stated by BMKG.
BMKG’s warning follows an earlier advisory covering waters including the waters of Komodo National Park, where waves of 1.25–2.5 metres were forecast for an earlier period. That earlier advisory is separate from the 15–18 October warning.
BMKG said fishermen and marine-transport operators should remain alert while the potential high-wave conditions continue through 18 October 2026.
