Jakarta — Coastal communities should remain alert to possible tidal flooding around the Hunter’s Moon on 26 October 2026, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said on 23 October.
BMKG said the Hunter’s Moon will occur on the night of 26 October 2026. The agency said the alignment of the Sun, Earth and Moon can produce stronger combined gravitational forces, causing higher high tides and lower low tides than usual.
BMKG’s warning covers coastal communities generally. The agency’s report does not identify Flores or East Nusa Tenggara as a specific affected location, and it does not provide a separate local forecast for either area.
Why it matters to readers
Higher tides and possible tidal flooding can affect coastal communities and activities in areas connected to the Flores Sea and surrounding waters. Readers should follow BMKG’s official updates on weather and sea conditions during the full-moon period, consistent with the agency’s warning.
BMKG described Hunter’s Moon as a traditional term for the full moon appearing after the Harvest Moon. For Jakarta, the Moon is expected to rise from the east at 17.53 WIB, reach its highest point at 23.58 WIB and set at 05.10 WIB the following morning. These times are reported for Jakarta and may differ elsewhere.
