Labuan Bajo — BMKG forecasts the rainy season to begin in the third ten-day period of December 2026 in the Padar Islands, Komodo and western and southern Manggarai Barat, according to reports published on September 30, 2026.
The forecast is based on seasonal rainfall criteria described by BMKG. The agency defines the start of the rainy season using rainfall above 50 millimetres per 10 days, followed by the same threshold in the next two ten-day periods, or total rainfall of 150 millimetres in one month.
The forecast covers parts of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), where most seasonal zones are expected to enter the rainy season during December 2026. The report places central Manggarai Barat in the second ten-day period of December, before the forecast timing for the Padar Islands, Komodo and western and southern Manggarai Barat.
Why the December timing matters for Padar and Komodo visitors
The forecast provides seasonal planning context for travel around Padar and Komodo. It does not announce a park closure, a change in visitor fees or a suspension of access.
BMKG, Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, issued the forecast through information attributed to Rahmattulloh Adji, head of the Kupang Climatology Station. The reports identify the relevant period as the third ten-day period of December 2026 rather than a specific calendar date.
A separate BMKG outlook says most of Indonesia’s seasonal zones will begin the 2026 rainy season in November or December. It identifies December 2026 as the start of the rainy season for much of NTT, but it does not provide a more precise date for the Padar Islands or Komodo in the cited national outlook.
For the destinations named in the local report, the stated forecast remains the third ten-day period of December 2026. The reports do not state any further operational action for visitors or the Komodo National Park Authority (BTNK).
