Flores Timur — PLN began preparing the Oka Ile Ange geothermal project in Flores Timur on 28 September 2026, while opposition to geothermal development continued to broaden across Flores, according to Floresa.
The initial coordination meeting for the Oka Ile Ange Geothermal Working Area took place on 23 September 2026. Officials from Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and PLN joined the discussion remotely, according to RRI.
The project’s planned initial capacity is 10 MW, with development discussed in stages. RRI reported that the working area has geothermal potential of up to 40 MW. A separate report said the proposed power plant would have a 2x5 MW configuration and a planned commercial operation date in 2033.

The working area covers about 12.510 hectares and extends across five subdistricts and 21 villages, according to data cited by Floresa. The report said the area has potential energy of about 40 MW and an initial development plan of about 10 MW to 15 MW.
Flores Timur Regent Antonius Doni Dihen called for scientific studies, careful environmental-impact analysis and public consultation that goes beyond a formal process. RRI reported that he also said social and environmental considerations should accompany the project’s energy potential.
Further technical meetings involving the local government, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, PLN and other parties are planned, RRI reported. The reports did not establish that construction has begun.
