Komodo National Park explains revised entry fees under PP 36/2024

Labuan Bajo — The Komodo National Park management has begun explaining a revised entrance tariff of Rp50,000 for Indonesian visitors on weekdays and Rp75,000 on public holidays, alongside a flat Rp250,000 fee for foreign visitors, under Indonesia’s Government Regulation No. 36 of 2024 on non-tax state revenue.

According to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry’s Directorate General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE), Balai Taman Nasional Komodo (BTNK) formally announced and socialised the application of Government Regulation (Peraturan Pemerintah) No. 36 of 2024 to tourism stakeholders in Labuan Bajo on 25 October 2024, with the new tariffs coming into force from 30–31 October 2024, replacing the previous framework under Government Regulation No. 12 of 2014.

KSDAE states that the regulation adjusts entrance fees for domestic visitors to Rp50,000 on weekdays and Rp75,000 on holidays, a change from much lower earlier rates, while simplifying foreign visitor fees to Rp250,000 per person per visit. Indonesian media coverage and tourism guidance materials similarly report that domestic visitors pay Rp50,000 on regular days and Rp75,000 on public holidays, and foreign visitors pay Rp250,000 per person, whether visiting Komodo, Padar or Rinca Island.

What the ticket includes

Under the new scheme, the standard entrance ticket for both Indonesian and foreign visitors includes trekking, wildlife observation and snorkeling activities within the park, according to KSDAE and statements cited by regional tourism authorities. The ticket does not include boat services, accommodation or tour operator services.

Scuba diving is charged as a separate activity at Rp25,000 per person per dive. Official and tourism guidance documents also list a sport fishing tariff of Rp5 million per person per activity. These rates are presented as part of the non-tax state revenue (PNBP) schedule attached to Government Regulation No. 36 of 2024.

Domestic and foreign visitor tariffs

Information published by the environment ministry and government-linked tourism platforms sets out the following headline tariffs for Komodo National Park under Government Regulation No. 36 of 2024:

• Indonesian visitors (domestic): Rp50,000 per person on weekdays.
• Indonesian visitors (domestic): Rp75,000 per person on weekends and public holidays.
• Foreign visitors: Rp250,000 per person per day, applied equally on weekdays and holidays.
• Diving (scuba): Rp25,000 per person per activity.
• Sport fishing: Rp5,000,000 per person per activity.

These figures are consistent across ministry releases, national lifestyle coverage and tourism information sites referring to the implementation of Government Regulation No. 36 of 2024 for Komodo National Park.

Implementation and terminology changes

The regulation is part of a wider update to the list and tariff structure of non-tax state revenue administered by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. Legal databases and government summaries note that the regulation was signed and promulgated on 30 September 2024 and came into force after 30 days, from 31 October 2024.

According to a briefing published by the Labuan Bajo Flores Authority (BPOLBF), BTNK’s socialisation session in Labuan Bajo highlighted the consolidation of several previous activity-based charges into a single entrance ticket, and changes in terminology such as replacing “coupons” with “entrance tickets” for visitors and clarifying ticketing for vehicles entering the park.

Government and tourism bodies present the 2024 adjustment as aligning Komodo National Park’s fees with updated national rules on non-tax state revenue and business licensing, while simplifying the tariff structure for visitors and tour operators.
