Labuan Bajo — The tourist vessel Yukai ran aground near Seture Island on 27 September 2026. Twelve passengers and six crew members were evacuated safely after the incident.
The vessel had departed Labuan Bajo for Komodo Island before it ran aground. All 18 people aboard reached safety, and no fatalities were reported. The evacuation provided the immediate outcome for everyone on the vessel.
The grounding caused no pollution. After the evacuation, the vessel was towed towards Pulau Kelapa and remained in the process of being refloated. Refloating and assessment work continued after the passengers and crew had reached safety.
Why the Yukai incident matters to Komodo visitors
The incident involved a tourist vessel operating on a route used to reach Komodo Island from Labuan Bajo. The route connected the departure point with a destination used by visitors, while the grounding occurred near Seture Island.
The passengers were 12 people listed on the manifest, including five Indonesian citizens and seven foreign nationals. The six crew members included the vessel’s captain. Together, the passengers and crew accounted for all 18 people aboard.
The safe evacuation meant that no fatalities were reported. The reported towing and refloating operation indicated that the maritime response continued after the evacuation. The vessel remained under assessment while that work continued.
The cause of the grounding and the total losses remained under assessment. No final finding on what caused the incident had been stated.
