Flores and the surrounding islands have a pronounced seasonal climate, but rainfall is not uniform across the region. BMKG’s 2025 dry-season forecast classified several Flores zones as having a normal dry season, with the timing differing between southeastern Ende–Sikka–southern East Flores, northern East Flores–Adonara–Solor, and Lembata.
When does the dry season begin across Flores?
According to BMKG’s 2025 Indonesian Dry Season Forecast, the forecast onset was the third ten-day period of April for southeastern Ende, Sikka and southern East Flores. The same forecast placed onset in the first ten-day period of April for northern East Flores, Adonara and Solor, and the second ten-day period of April for Lembata.
Does every island experience the same dry-season timing?
No. BMKG’s zone-by-zone forecast shows that neighbouring islands and districts can enter the dry season in different ten-day periods, so a Flores-wide date would obscure local variation.
BMKG also forecast a normal dry season for most of Indonesia in 2025. For the Flores-related zones listed in the forecast, the expected dry-season duration was described as longer or shorter than normal depending on the zone, rather than being identical across the region.
What does “normal” mean in this forecast?
In BMKG’s forecast, “normal” describes the expected seasonal pattern and rainfall characteristics compared with the climatological reference used by the agency. It does not mean that rain stops completely or that conditions are identical every day.
Why does this matter for Flores and nearby islands?
The differences matter because weather conditions vary across the island region, including between mainland Flores and nearby islands such as Adonara, Solor and Lembata. BMKG’s official forecast is therefore organised by climate zone rather than treating the entire area as one weather unit.
