Labuan BajoTelkom Indonesia has carried out a mangrove restoration programme involving the planting of 20,000 seedlings in coastal areas of Jepara, Central Java, and Manggarai Barat, East Nusa Tenggara, as part of its GoZero% sustainability initiative, according to company statements and local media reports dated 6 August 2026.

The activities focus on Desa Kedungmalang in Kecamatan Kedung, Jepara, and Desa Golo Sepang in Kecamatan Boleng, Manggarai Barat.

According to coverage by the Jakarta-based daily Koran Jakarta, TelkomGroup planted 10,000 mangrove seedlings in Golo Sepang in an area described as having high ecological value near the company’s digital infrastructure operations, alongside another 10,000 seedlings in Kedungmalang, Jepara.

Local and national outlets reporting the programme describe it as coastal ecosystem rehabilitation aimed at strengthening shoreline resilience and supporting climate-change mitigation.

Sites and stated objectives

In Kedungmalang, Jepara, Telkom’s mangrove planting targets a stretch of coastline affected by abrasion and tidal flooding, with the company positioning mangroves as a natural barrier against erosion and as a basis for reviving local, marine-based economic activity.

In Golo Sepang, Manggarai Barat, TelkomGroup’s programme combines mangrove planting with the activation of a Rumah Edukasi Mangrove, or Mangrove Education House, which is intended to serve as a centre for learning, conservation and community empowerment for coastal communities, according to Koran Jakarta’s report.

Telkom frames the initiative as part of its GoZero% sustainability programme under the environmental pillar, with stated objectives including restoring mangrove habitat, supporting biodiversity, increasing coastal resilience and contributing to low-carbon development.

The company and partner media also link the 2026 planting activities to international environmental observances, including International Mangrove Day and other nature conservation events held in late July, positioning the programme as part of broader awareness-raising on coastal conservation.

Programme scale and mangrove education

TelkomGroup reports that, over the 2024–2026 period, it has planted 179,150 mangrove seedlings in coastal areas across Indonesia as part of its GoZero% and blue carbon initiatives.

Company sustainability materials state that GoZero% focuses on environmental, social and governance pillars, with mangrove planting and related marine conservation activities highlighted as key components of the environmental pillar and blue carbon efforts.

In Golo Sepang, the Mangrove Education House is reported as a hub for building local capacity in coastal ecosystem management and for strengthening community awareness of conservation, with Telkom working with local government, partners and residents, according to Koran Jakarta.

Media reports note that the programme is presented as both environmental restoration and social responsibility around Telkom’s operational areas, with the company emphasising collaboration with local stakeholders rather than acting alone.

Company statements and broader GoZero% actions

In public communications on GoZero%, Telkom executives have said the company aims to integrate digital infrastructure development with environmental protection and community empowerment, positioning mangrove planting and similar programmes as examples of that approach.

Earlier GoZero%-related actions have included mangrove planting and coral transplantation in Lombok Utara and mangrove restoration in Demak and other coastal locations, indicating that the Jepara and Manggarai Barat programme is part of a wider series of coastal conservation activities under the same sustainability branding.

Across these programmes, Telkom highlights its contribution to biodiversity protection and coastal resilience, while aligning its environmental activities with national low-carbon and net zero emission targets.
