NTT Economy Grew 5.44% in Q2 2025 as Exports Rose 63.53%

Kupang — Nusa Tenggara Timur’s economy grew 5.44% year on year in the second quarter of 2025, while exports of goods and services rose 63.53% quarter on quarter, according to Statistics Indonesia’s provincial office and Bank Indonesia’s NTT regional report.
Statistics Indonesia’s NTT office said the province also expanded 7.54% from the first quarter and 5.10% cumulatively in the first half of 2025. Bank Indonesia’s August 2025 regional economic report likewise said NTT’s economy strengthened 5.44% year on year in the April-June period, above the national 5.12% rate.
The export figure should be read as a quarter-to-quarter comparison, not a yearly one. In the same reporting period, exports of goods and services were cited as the fastest-growing expenditure component, rising 39.89% year on year and 23.27% in the first half compared with the same period in 2024.
What drove growth
BPS NTT said the economy was supported by both spending and production. Household consumption remained the largest expenditure component at 64.87%, while agriculture, forestry and fisheries accounted for 30.48% of production.
On the production side, wholesale and retail trade, including vehicle and motorcycle repair, recorded the strongest year-on-year growth among the main business sectors at 12.90%. Accommodation and food services posted the highest quarter-to-quarter growth at 21.55%.
Construction was the only one of the five largest sectors cited in the report to contract during the quarter. BPS NTT also said the broad set of positive readings meant the province’s expansion was not driven by a single sector.
Reading the numbers
The 63.53% export increase does not mean exports jumped by that amount from a year earlier. It refers to the second quarter compared with the first quarter of 2025, while the year-on-year export gain was 39.89%.
For the first half of 2025, BPS NTT said the economy grew 5.10% cumulatively and exports rose 23.27% from the same period in 2024. The published figures do not separate goods from services, so the report does not show how much of the increase came from merchandise, tourism or other service activity.
