Labuan Bajo — More than 50 retail and food-and-beverage tenants are preparing to operate at Mawatu ahead of its planned soft opening on 16 October 2026, according to JPNN and Bisnis.com reports.
The reports identify Mawatu as a new commercial area in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara. They say the project is preparing tenants across retail, food and beverage, fashion, local products, wellness and entertainment.
The same reports say a public beach area is being prepared with sanitation facilities and a prayer room. The jetty is being readied for full operations, while parking arrangements are still being prepared to support visitor movement.
Why Mawatu matters to Labuan Bajo readers
The planned opening would add a new commercial and public-space component to Labuan Bajo’s growing tourism economy. Bisnis.com reported that the project’s initial operating phase will be followed by continued development of facilities and tenants.
JPNN reported that Cinema XXI is also scheduled to begin showing films at Mawatu on 16 October 2026. The reports named several prospective tenants, including Alma, La Cucina, Altomare, Bale Nagi, Sashi Bakehouse, Uttara by Mimamori Group, Toko Tiga Kopitiam, Guardian, Alfamart, Sensatia and Komodo Ethnic Tenun.
The 30 September report said the public beach, jetty, sanitation facilities and parking arrangements were nearing operational readiness. The soft opening is described as the first stage of Mawatu’s operations, after which the area’s facilities and tenant mix are expected to continue developing.
